A Look Back, And A Leap Forward

best projects of 2014

2014 has been a pivotal year for Home Made by Carmona, and I have a feeling 2015 will be a whirlwind year. I’m excited and ready to take it on! But before I jump headlong into 2015, I always say it is good to look back at what you have accomplished and reflect on the lessons you’ve learned, and be thankful for all you have! In that spirit I want to share 5 of my favorite projects from 2014, and what I’ve learned with each one.

number one

 DIY WIRE BASKET

With this project I learned to start truly thinking outside the box. Being willing to ask “how can this be made?” rather than assuming that it can’t. The idea first came to me while perusing my local hardware store, and I remember my shock to see others had come up with the same idea when I decided to Google my idea (haha so much for being brilliant).

TV CONSOLE MAKEOVER

I cannot describe how awkward and clunky this dressing table was before getting a major makeover… well you’ll just have to see it for yourself here. I learned to never write off the hideous, with a little tender-love-and-care even the ugliest duckling can find new life.

Laundry Room Makeover

Makeovers make me giddy. Nothing feels quite like finishing a space and being able to sit back with that great sense of accomplishment. In this space I made sure that fashion and function worked in perfect accord. Any space can be beautiful, does it change your life and make it easier? Then you know you have accomplished a worthy goal!

FAUX TIN TUTORIAL

With this project, I learned that when you want something badly enough ingenuity isn’t far off! I had been eyeing those faux tins on Pinterest for some time, eventually I worked out a knock-off that finally put those longings to rest!

STYLIZED OFFICE ACCESSORIES

While working on my office space, I learned that spray paint goes a looooooooong way. That’s right, a large number of items in my office (and living room) got a paint-over that made a huge difference. From the smallest push pin, to file holders, to office tools, the little things can make a big difference! Learn to make these custom gold magnetic tins here, and to stylize your office file box here. You can also learn how to paint your stapler gold here, and attend to your push pins here,

I’ve also made some amazing (extremely talented) friends in 2014. I’d love for you to visit each of their year end posts and see their best of 2014!
